Analytical Flavor Systems is founded by a team that appreciates the hard work and quality behind what we eat and drink. Inevitably, we were led to build tools for quality control in the food & beverage industry. By utilizing sensory science, data science, and analytical chemistry, we are able to protect our clients’ products from batch variations, flaws, and contaminations.

The Founder

Before starting Analytical Flavor Systems, Jason was the Founder and Executive Director of The Tea Institute at Penn State, which oversees 20+ researchers in 5 fields of study in traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Tea. Jason did his research in sensory science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence - eventually developing the Gastrograph system after 3 1/2 years of research. Jason is a professional coffee, tea, and beer taster, and when he is not trying new products, he enjoys rock climbing, ice climbing, and fencing.

John is a geek for good flavor. When he's not working to empower the taste buds of the fine folks that make his favorite products, you will find him trying new foods and beverages. He is a member of The Tea Institute at Penn State but drinks far more coffee these days. Outside of work, he enjoys reading science fiction and learning about different styles of music. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in Information Sciences & Technology.

Dan is a full-stack engineer & designer, a Penn State dropout, and previously was the co-founder & CEO of Present. He's been writing software professionally for 10 years, and has lead the development of numerous projects. When he's not working, he may be found playing drums or petting dogs.

Ryan is the second Executive Director Emeritus of the Tea Institute at Penn State. He studied chemistry at Penn State and is a former researcher at the Badding Group, a solid-state and high pressure materials chemistry lab at University Park. In his free time, he enjoys spending time exploring the ramen offerings of New York, visiting art museums, and drinking tea.

Deval holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics & Psychology with a minor in Applied Math and Statistics from Stony Brook University. He is very passionate about coffee, data science, and playing keyboard. When he isn't doing one of these things, he likes to meditate and go exploring in forests/nature.

Aislynn graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree concentrating in New Media from Penn State University. When she isn’t designing for Gastrograph, she enjoys the pursuit of artisan beverages. Everything from slinging ‘spro to whisking matcha has caused her agility and swiftness to carry over into her artwork. Oh, and she can be found playing with exotic animals from time to time. She isn’t called S.uper Q.uick U.ser I.nterface D.esigner for nothing.

WeiWei brings six years of business analytics experience from Philip Morris International and Nielsen before joining AFS. She holds a Masters in Applied Analytics from Columbia University. As a licensed baker and scuba diver, she enjoys fixing her sweeth tooth and exploring the deep blue in her free time.

Abhishek is currently pursuing his second masters degree in Applied Analytics at Columbia. He has several years of leadership experience in Banking Technology & Operations. Having seen the 2008 financial melt down, it is no surprise that he is passionate about process, governance and building robust applications. His love for food brought him to AFS and to unwind, he enjoys sampling desserts, river rafting or just watching movies.
